Explore the Wild Great Wall on Foot

Face the ultimate hiking challenge along the Wild Great Wall!
Extending for over 8,850 kilometres (5,500 mi) from Jiayu Pass in the west to Tiger Mountain in the east, the Great Wall is the exceptional result of thousands of years of construction and renovation. While large stretches of wall have become disconnected or are gradually falling to ruin, the sections of the wall located near Beijing or within Hebei province are widely considered to be the most intact and therefore represent some of the most magnificent hikes on offer in China.
When the Great Wall was initially built, in order to maximise its effectiveness, several mountains were incorporated into it as natural barriers and these account for about a quarter of its length. You could say this helped prevent the construction costs from becoming too steep! That being said, over 70% of it is made up of manmade wall, which is incredibly impressive. It consists of three main components: passes, signal towers, and walls. Read more about the Great Wall.
We have two hiking tours that are designed around exploring the Wild Great Wall on foot.
The must-see sections of the Great Wall around Beijing
We have selected four parts of the Great Wall, which are all near Beijing, to show you what the real Great Wall looks like. The plan both includes sections of the Great Wall that are in their original condition and haven’t undergone any maintenance, and also some sections that have been repaired but are still not as crowded as the more tourist-oriented sections of the Great Wall.
